3 Ways To Use Spray Foam Insulation In Your Home

Spray foam is a liquid composed of polyurethane, and it is capable of expanding up to 100 times its original volume when exposed to air. Safe and versatile, this product is used heavily during the construction of modern-day homes. Here are three great ways that you can use spray foam insulation in your house.

#1: Add Insulation to Walls without Removing Drywall

Spray foam has been used since the 1970s to insulate homes. Spray foam can either be sprayed onto areas that need additional insulation, such as the space in between studs in an unfinished basement, or it can be injected into the walls. Because spray foam insulation can be injected through small-drilled holes, it eliminates the need for homeowners to remove drywall in order to increase home efficiency.

After the spray foam has been pumped into the walls, it expands to reach all crevices, creating a tight bond of insulation inside of the wall cavity. The spray foam hardens, and the holes can be patched and painted. This method of adding insulation can save homeowners thousands of dollars on construction costs, as it is much less invasive than adding batting.

#2: Quiet Noisy Sinks

Do your stainless steel sinks make a ton of noise whenever the water is on? Reverberations from running water can be magnified by stainless steel sinks, but with a $5 can of spray foam insulation, you can correct the problem.

The empty space in-between the underside of sinks can amplify sounds, but filling the area with spray foam will deaden the noise. Spray the underside gap in between sinks with spray foam, and then after it hardens trim off any loose material. This will work to quiet your sinks, providing you with a quieter kitchen.

#3: Keep the Critters Out

Many times, homeowners unknowingly let critters into their home. Even the most aggressive pesticide won’t work to fend off bugs and rodents if there are tiny doorways into your space. When cables and pipes are routed into your house through walls, there are often little gaps left behind that give vermin easy access to your place.

Inspect your home for any incoming gaps, and seal up any holes with spray foam. Since the foam hardens and fills the entire space in a few seconds, it will quickly create an excellent barricade for any pests that try to enter.
